Weekly Highlights – 10/10/14

Daylight savings has officially begun! More sun of an evening means we’re closer to summer, and this is basically me at the moment

After travelling to Europe last summer I missed out on a significant amount of sun (*sigh* first world problems :p) so I’m determined to make up for lost time this summer. Aside from my joy at more daylight hours, here are some of my highlights from this week

  • Evening walks. Now that it gets dark later there’s no reason not to go for a walk of anevening. We went for a stroll last night and came across a night market we would otherwise have missed. There was a band and everything! Butterfly
  • Seeing my family (and going to the zoo). My family came down last weekend and it was fantastic seeing them. It was two jam-packed days of non-stop activity and it was a lot of fun. One of the best parts was going to the zoo. I used to live in Melbourne when I was younger and I remember going to the zoo quite often. One of my favourite places was the butterfly house, and I was thrilled that it was just as awesome as I remembered. Caterpillar
  • Speaking of butterflies, I finally found the culprit who’s been eating all my basil. For some reason I assumed it was little bugs so I didn’t bother looking too closely but when I watered it the other day I realised there was a massive caterpillar attached. It looks like a twig, but trust me, there’s a great big, fat, basil-loving caterpillar in that photo. I don’t know about you but I have a hard time killing bugs once they’re past a certain size, so Mr. Caterpillar is staying where he is for the time being. It’s not like he can do anymore damage to my plant, there are literally no leaves left.
  • I’ve also started my next spray-painting project, after I was so pleased with the results of my kitchen trolley. We purchased two little coffee tables ages ago and we’ve been meaning to paint them. I finally got around to it this week so hopefully I’ll have some photos to share next week (or it will be a complete disaster and we’ll never speak of it again)

I think that’s everything for this week. What are some of the best things that have happened to you this week?

Happy weekend!

xx Ellen

This weekend I’m planning on catching up on some reading and crocheting
